Hi everybody! Muffin performed its first workshop and it was a lot of fun.

Although some of the girls were afraid of the sewing machine, everybody did a great a job sewing their own tote.

Mas no final todas se sairam muito bem. Não concordam?

   Era uma vez uma princesa chamada Raquel que conheceu um principe chamado Bruno e os dois decidiram casar hoje.

   O Muffin foi convidado para ir ao casamento, acompanhando as lembranças para oferecer às crianças convidadas. Ainda não chegou a casa, deve estar a adorar a festa!

   Once upon a time, there was a princess called Raquel, who met a prince called Bruno and they both decided to get married today.

   Muffin was invited to go to the wedding, and he took the gifts for the children who were also invited. He hasn't arrived yet, so I assume he must be loving the party!

Saia/Skirt Tutorial

Tal como prometido a uma querida amiga que está a descobrir o maravilhoso mundo da costura, aqui fica um tutorial sobre como fazer uma saia para pequenas princesas. Vamos precisar de:

2 Tiras de Tecido (2 cores); Renda; Fita; Botão; Elástico; Linhas

As I promised to a dear friend who's discovering the wonderful world of sewing, here's a tutorial on how to make a skirt for little princesses. You'll need:

2 Fabric Stripes (2 colors); Lace; Ribbon; Button; Elastic; Sewing Thread

O bom destas saias é que não precisam de ter medidas muito específicas. Recomendo medir a cintura da criança e cortar as bandas de tecido com 2 ou 3 vezes essa medida, conforme se goste da saia mais ou menos franzida. O mesmo para a altura, ou seja, mede-se da cintura até onde se quer a saia e dá-se os devidos descontos para as costuras. Não precisa de ser uma coisa muito exacta porque como é uma saia de elástico pode-se vestir para assentar na cintura ou um pouco mais abaixo, conforme se queira usar mais curto ou mais comprido.

The good thing about these skirts, is that there’s no need for very specific measurements. I recommend you to measure the child’s waist and then cut you fabric stripes 2 or 3 times that size, depending on how ruffled you’d like your skirt to be. The same thing about the height, meaning you should measure from the waist just to the point you want it to end, and cut your fabrics considering seam allowances. You don’t need to be totally exact on these measurements, since this has an elastic waistband, which means you can wear it on your waist or a bit lower, depending on how short or long you want it to look.

 Avesso com avesso, costura-se a barra ao tecido na ponta, a todo o comprimento.

 Wrong sides together, sew the two fabrics together, along the whole length.

Do lado direito e sobre a costura, aplica-se a renda, cosendo a todo o comprimento, disfarçando assim a costura e permitindo que o avesso fique perfeito, sem necessidade de chulear.

On the right side and on top of the seam, sew the lace along the length of the fabric, hiding the seam underneath, allowing the reverse to be perfect, with no need for serge or zig zag.

Faz-se uma bainha, dobrando cerca de 1cm de tecido para o lado do avesso duas vezes e costurando a todo o comprimento na beirinha.

Make the hem folding the fabric about 1cm to the wrong side, two times. Then, sew all the way along the very edge.



Nesta altura convém acertar as medidas na parte de cima da saia cortando o eventual excesso de tecido. Tudo depende de que altura se quer a saia), porque deve proceder-se da mesma forma que para a bainha, mas dobrando com a medida do elástico, deixando uma pequena margem para costura. Se se tiver uma etiqueta, esta é a altura ideal para a prender ao cós à medida que se cose.

Now you should check your measurements, as you may need to cut some remaining fabric (depending on the height you want for your skirt), because you need to proceed the same way you did for the hem, but this time you should fold your fabric considering the size of your elastic and seam allowances. If you have a tag, this is the time for you to insert it, as you sew along the waistband.

  

Com a ajuda de um alfinete-de-ama, passa-se o elástico pelo cós que se coseu e dá-se alguns pontos de alto a baixo, depois de decidir a largura com que a saia deve ficar na cintura. Aqui é preciso não esquecer que ainda falta coser a saia em altura, por isso convém não franzir demasiado o elástico pois ainda lhe vai ser “roubado” mais um bocadinho para costuras.

With the help of a safety pin, introduce the elastic on the opening of the waistband and stitch it to close, so that it won’t run away, after deciding what size the waist should have.

Make sure you don't stretch the elastic too much, as you still need to sew the skirt in height, which means part of the elastic will be lost on seam allowances.

Direito com direito, coloca-se uns alfinetes para o tecido não fugir a toda a altura e cose-se à máquina, na beirinha do tecido.

Right sides together, pin the fabric so it won’t slide as you sew and machine sew on the very edge of your fabric.

Vira-se a saia do avesso e cose-se novamente a toda a altura, um pouco mais para dentro agora, obtendo assim um acabamento perfeito, mais uma vez, sem necessidade de chulear.



Turn the skirt wrong side, and sew it again in height, although leaving a bit more space from the edge,obtaining a perfect finishing, once again with no need for serge or zig zag. 

Para finalizar, faz-se um lacinho com uma fita de cetim e cose-se no cós no centro da saia, aplicando um botão por cima para dar o toque final.

At last, make a bow from a satin ribbon and sew it over the waistband, in the center of the skirt. Sew a button on top, for the final touch.

Depois é só passar a ferro et voilà!

Then, just iron your skirt “et voilà”!

   O Muffin tem estado um bocadinho zangado comigo porque não lhe tenho dado muita atenção, mas já conversámos e fizemos as pazes.

   Às vezes, as coisas não são tão simples como nós gostaríamos que fossem e eu tenho uma certa tendência para me esquecer que ainda não inventaram dias com 48 horas.

   O que é facto é que estou de volta e vou tentar estar mais presente daqui em diante.

   Para celebrar a ocasião, estou a preparar um novo tutorial que poderão vir conferir dentro de um par de dias.

   Muffin has been a bit angry with me, because I haven't been paying it a lot of attention lately, but we've already talked and made up.

Presente de Natal/Christmas Gift (tutorial)

Hoje, o muffin e eu elaborámos um tutorial para um presente bonito e doce para este Natal. E além disso envolve chocolate, portanto... o que é que pode ser melhor?

Hi everybody!

Today, muffin and I made a tutorial for a nice and sweet gift for this Christmas. Besides it involves chocolate, so… what could be better?

Em primeiro lugar, vão precisar de um frasco de vidro, tecido para o exterior, tecido para o forro e de uma fita bem bonita.

First of all, you’ll need a glass container, fabric for the outside, fabric for the lining and a pretty ribbon.

Agora medimos o frasco a toda a volta e em altura, para decidir o tamanho que queremos para a banda de tecido e depois, cortamos os tecidos e a fita, não esquecendo os descontos para as costuras.

Now, we measure the container all around and in height, to decide the size we want for our fabric band. Then, cut the fabrics and ribbon, and don’t forget to add seam allowances.

Cose-se então a fita escolhida a todo o comprimento do tecido. Assim:

We then sew the chosen ribbon along the fabric length. Like so:

Junta-se os tecidos direito com direito e cose-se a toda a volta, deixando uma pequena abertura lateral, para poder virar a peça, o que se deve fazer em seguida.

Get your fabrics ride sides facing and sew around the edges, leaving a small opening on one of the sides, so you can turn it inside out, which you should do next.

Fecha-se a abertura, passa-se a banda de tecido a ferro e prova-se no frasco para confirmar a medida.

Sew trough your opening, iron the fabric band and try it on the container, to make sure you got your measures right.

Cose-se de alto a baixo à mão ou à máquina e “veste-se” o frasco, para de seguida enchê-lo com bombons (estes também foram feitos em casa, a propósito).

Close the band by hand or machine sewing and get you container “dressed”, so you can fill it with chocolates (these were also homemade, by the way).

Agora é só fechar e decorar a tampa com um guardanapo para bolos e um lacinho. Podemos colocar um autocolante no topo, ou algum tipo de decoração de natal, como uma estrela ou algo assim.

Now just close the container and decorate the cap with a cake napkin and a ribbon. We can also put a sticker on top, or some sort of xmas decoration, such as a star or something like that.

E pronto. Agora só têm que decidir quem vai ser o sortudo que vai ganhar um presente tão bonito!

There you go. Now, you just have to decide who’s the lucky person who’s going to get such a lovely gift!
